According to Officer Ward, the very presence of the media constituted a “scene” at the hospital. When a reporter and his cameraman challenged this absurd line of reasoning, the cop arrested the reporter and slapped him in handcuffs.
Officer Ward asked if getting arrested in order to practice the First Amendment was worth it.
Ward’s behavior and comments reveal that many police today have absolutely no concept of the First Amendment, the Constitution and the Bill of Rights. They have no tolerance for the operation of a free press.
It is personal for cops like Officer Ward. Anybody who challenges their arbitrary authority deserves to be arrested and thrown in the slammer.
