A selfless man? Romney introduces veep Ryan as ‘next US president’
US presidential candidate Mitt Romney on Saturday introduced running mate Paul Ryan as “the next president of the United States.” He quickly retracted his statement, saying he made a mistake – but not in choosing Ryan.
After the audience applauded Ryan’s entrance regardless of the error, Romney smiled and took the stage to correct himself.
“Every now and then I’m known to make a mistake. But I did not make a mistake with this guy. But I can tell you this, he’s going to be the next vice president of the United States,” Romney said before a fired-up crowd in Norfolk, Virginia.
Romney’s campaign called the new ticket “America’s comeback team.”
Ryan is the House Budget Committee chairman, widely known for his efforts to revamp Medicare into a voucher program.
Republicans will officially nominate Romney and Ryan at the Republican National Convention in Florida on Aug. 27.
Romney’s goof emulates what Barack Obama said four years ago:
“So let me introduce to you the next president – the next vice president of the US of America, Joe Biden.”

Buckhorn’s hope for RNC activity: Very few arrests

TAMPA — BayNews9
Tampa police chief Jane Castor has a one-liner for her definition of a successful Republican National Convention.
“If I still have a job at the end of it,” she quipped to the Tampa Bay Times.
Castor also told the Times she hopes the convention is about the political process and not law enforcement.
At the RNC in St. Paul, Minn., four years ago, more than 800 people were arrested. Authorities there admitted the voices of protesters mostly went unheard.
Tampa Mayor Bob Buckhorn says he’d like to see arrest numbers as low as those around the NATO Summit in Chicago earlier this year.
About 95 arrests were made there, according to media reports.

Romney campaign confirms Paul Ryan as running mate

Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney has picked Congressman Paul Ryan as his vice presidential running mate, the Romney campaign confirmed on Saturday.
“Mitt’s choice for VP is Paul Ryan. Spread the word about America’s comeback team,” a Romney campaign mobile phone application said, confirming widespread reports he had selected the 42-year-old Wisconsin lawmaker who chairs the U.S. House of Representatives Budget Committee.
Romney was expected to introduce Ryan at the retired battleship USS Wisconsin – coincidentally named for Ryan’s home state – in Norfolk, Virginia, at about 9 a.m. EDT (1300 GMT) Saturday.
