Millions in taxpayer money used to place Obamacare propaganda in TV shows
Obama to control your television; brainwashing will be “organically” woven into plots and storylines all next week
An insidious brainwashing program set to be launched next week will “organically” weave the government’s political propaganda into prime time network television shows, with positive talking points about Obama’s environmental, bailout, health care and “servitude” agenda being seamlessly integrated into the content of dramas, reality shows and comedies.
Under the auspices of a program run by the Entertainment Industry Foundation (EIF), network TV shows will be used to promote “service and volunteerism” on behalf of the public as part of a “week-long of television programming on all four leading broadcast networks – ABC, CBS, FOX, NBC, and all affiliated broadcast and cable properties as well, and other networks, beginning October 19.”
According to the EIF press release, “Network shows that will feature volunteerism in some way during the week of Oct 19th,” include the following.
All My Children, America’s Funniest Home Videos, Brothers and Sisters, Castle, Cougar Town, Dancing With The Stars, Desperate Housewives, Extreme Makeover: Home Edition, Flash Forward, General Hospital, Good Morning America, Grey’s Anatomy, Hank, Jimmy Kimmel Live, Modern Family, One Life To Live, Private Practice, The Forgotten, The Middle, The View, Ugly Betty
Cold Case, Criminal Minds, CSI: Miami, CSI: NY, Gary Unmarried, Ghost Whisperer, Numb3rs
America’s Most Wanted, Bones, Brothers, COPS, So You Think You Can Dance, Til Death
30 Rock, Access Hollywood, Community, Days of Our Lives, Heroes, Parks and Recreation, The Biggest Loser, The Office, Today Show
Despite the fact that this was announced back in September, a new investigation by John Nolte has revealed all kinds of surreptitious connections that give a solid indication of what we can expect to be promoted by the TV shows that will effectively be under government control from Monday onwards.
Not only will program makers prostrate themselves to push Obama’s lies about health care, banker bailouts, global warming and creepy public service programs that border on mandatory volunteerism, but they will also lead unsuspecting victims of their brainwashing into the arms of groups like Planned Parenthood.
“Doing the work the Kamikaze Media (many of whom are participating in this event rather than digging for the story) refuses, and with the help of Big Government’s Dana Loesch, Patrick and Stage Right have discovered that when it comes to this White House — whether it’s the NEA conference calls or EIF’s iParticipate programming — all roads funnel into one place: online volunteer portals, including Serve.gov, where if you plug in “health care” all kinds of Planned Parenthood openings pop up along with a video dispelling those ugly “myths” knocking ObamaCare,” writes Nolte.
As a subsequent Big Hollywood report points out, the websites being promoted by the “I Participate” campaign are little more than gateways to organizations like Planned Parenthood and their slice of Obama’s health care agenda, “reproductive freedom,” otherwise known as abortion, otherwise known as killing babies.
Since the websites that act as gateways for Planned Parenthood are being pushed on shows like So You Think You Can Dance, which is popular with teenage girls, the agenda is clear.
“As I said, my nine-year-old daughter loves “So You Think You Can Dance.” My wife and I are very careful. We watch the show first and record it via DVR. Then, the next day, if any of the dances are a bit risque we skip through them,” writes Stage Right. “Of course we skip through the commercials because they are often too adult for her. I suppose the week of October 19th we’re going to have to skip most of the shows lest she be encouraged to go to a website promoting an abortion clinic.”
“This nifty bit of propaganda encourages you to troll on blogs and leave comments, call in to talk radio shows and generally be annoying when people discuss ObamaCare by injecting Administration talking points found on AARP’s web page under the Orwellian header “Myths vs. Facts,” reports Stage Right.
Another item that is just a quick search away from the website that will be pushed on network TV next week encourages people to become ‘Global Warming Ambassadors’ for the National Wildlife Fund, which is a firm supporter of Obama’s Cap and Trade agenda.
This isn’t the first time the corporate networks have prostituted their integrity and handed over control of their content to the Obama administration. Back in June, ABC News mimicked the likes of Communist China and North Korea by completely turning its news coverage over to the government and excluding any dissenting opinions to promote President Obama’s health care agenda.
Indeed, Rupert Murdoch’s Twentieth Century Fox corporation has admitted to planting political brainwashing within its globally popular TV shows and indeed boasts that it is proud of the fact. A corporate video shows Fox executives and stars of its universally recognized shows bragging about how they use the platform of hit shows that are broadcast worldwide to implant messages about the supposed threat of global warming. Watch below.
If all this wasn’t disturbing enough, one of the “I Paticipate” initiative’s main protagonists is none other than Ashton Kutcher, who along with Demi Moore produced one of the creepiest You Tube videos ever made, in which celebrities pledge their servitude to Barack Obama and encourage everyone to do the same as they repeat mantras with cult-like zeal.
Who remember’s this one?
The fact that corporate TV outlets are openly writing scripts and editing content to incorporate government propaganda, added to the fact that they act like this is some kind of wonderful service to the American people, is a damning indictment of just how deep the alphabet soup networks are in the pocket of the establishment.
It also underscores exactly why they are losing viewers to the Internet and alternative media at an alarming speed while hypocritically attacking the alternative media for being untrustworthy.
We’ll leave it to the reader to decide for themselves. Who’s the most trustworthy? The muckraking blogger or the legions of corporate media whores who brazenly hand over their editorial control to the government and then celebrate the fact as if it’s a major achievement?
Millions in taxpayer money used to place Obamacare propaganda in TV shows
Wednesday, September 19, 2012 by: J. D. Heyes
(NaturalNews) Before the Democrat-led Congress voted to approve President Obama’s healthcare “reform” law, then-House Speaker Nancy Pelosi of California declared, “…We have to pass the bill so you can find out what’s in it.”
Never before in recent memory has a sitting House speaker demonstrated such disregard for the public’s right to know regarding a massive new entitlement, what it meant to them, what it would eventually cost and, most importantly, its impact on American society.
Now, some two-and-a-half years later, with most public opinion polls still showing that a majority of voters dislike Obamacare, Americans are going to be spoon-fed propaganda regarding the law’s “benefits,” while of course the law’s negative effects (on employment, on business expansion, on the ability of the healthcare system to even handle the coming tsunami of new patients) will be ignored or downplayed.
What’s more, you’re going to be paying for this propaganda.
It all starts – where else? – in California.
‘Good story lines here’
According to The New York Times, the state – which is drowning in debt – has already begun constructing a healthcare insurance exchange mandated by the law. That has included, of course, the hiring of 100 new state workers, a consulting firm and a web portal developer.
“Realizing that much of the battle will be in the public relations realm, the exchange has poured significant resources into a detailed marketing plan – developed not by state health bureaucrats but by the global marketing powerhouse Ogilvy Public Relations Worldwide, which has an initial $900,000 contract with the exchange,” the Times reported. The firm’s plan is to tap Hollywood, where some of Obama’s most ardent support comes from, to sell this turkey to the American public.
Ogilvy envisions television shows like “Modern Family,” which features a gay theme (EDITOR’S NOTE: I WATCH THIS SHOW AND EVEN THOUGH THERE’S A GAY COUPLE, THE SHOW ITSELF DOESN’T “FEATURE A GAY THEME” I THINK IT WOULD BE BETTER TO SAY PROGRESSIVE THEME), and “Grey’s Anatomy,” weaving Obamacare into story lines – all in a positive manner, of course.
There’s more. From the Times:
Plans are being discussed to pitch a reality television show about “the trials and tribulations of families living without medical coverage,” according to the Ogilvy plan. … “I’d like to see 10 of the major TV shows, or telenovelas, have people talking about ‘that health insurance thing,’ ” said Peter V. Lee, the exchange’s executive director. “There are good story lines here.”
Yet Another Reason To Torch the TV
“Officials in California want prime-time TV shows to help promote President Obama’s healthcare law. … ‘A number of popular television programs and personalities such as Grey’s Anatomy, Modern Family, the Biggest Loser, Dr. Oz and others will be approached and pitched to incorporate story lines or mentions of health care reform that would reinforce campaign messages,’” according to the “marketing plan” from “California’s insurance exchange — a new marketplace [sic], created by” Obummercare.
Apparently, the idea that propaganda should be subtle and hidden has waned as Our Rulers’ contempt for us waxes.
Taxpayers to Fund Hollywood ObamaCare Propaganda
The New American
Taxpayers are funding a “public relations” marketing contract to promote ObamaCare worth almost $1 million so far that will include working with Hollywood to promote the controversial federal healthcare takeover in popular TV shows. Critics blasted the deal as an effort to use propaganda to drum up support for Obama’s deeply unpopular signature statute, which polls show a majority of Americans hope to repeal.
According to the New York Times, which first reported on the scheme, California officials overseeing the implementation of the ObamaCare-mandated “healthcare exchange” know that much of the battle will involve public opinion. So as other state governments work to nullify the federal power grab, authorities in the Golden State are pouring federal and state tax dollars into an expensive “marketing plan.”
Already famous for slavish support of big government and President Obama, Hollywood and the entertainment industry will apparently be one of the main targets of the pro-ObamaCare propaganda scheme. According to the marketing plan cited by the Times, among the ideas being discussed is a so-called “reality TV show” surrounding “the trials and tribulations of families living without medical coverage.”
On top of that, the taxpayer-funded “marketing” scheme will aim to have prime-time television shows such as Modern Family and Grey’s Anatomy promoting ObamaCare in their plots. Spanish-language “telenovelas” run by Univision will also be targeted in the public relations effort, the Times reported.
“I’d like to see 10 of the major TV shows, or telenovelas, have people talking about ‘that health insurance thing,’” California health exchange Executive Director Peter V. Lee was quoted as saying. “There are good story lines here.”
The initial $900,000 contract for “public relations” services — analysts largely consider the term a synonym for propaganda — was awarded to Ogilvy Public Relations Worldwide. The company, which has a long history of working with government, touts a new “global behavior change practice” on its website — a tool that apparently prods people into doing what clients want.
Other elements of the scheme include massive advertising campaigns in dozens of languages. Some of the examples cited by theTimes: advertising on coffee cup sleeves at community colleges and buying ads at professional soccer matches to reach young Hispanic men.
In addition to the taxpayer-financed propaganda blitz — the exchange is funded with “grants” from the U.S. government and by already-strapped state taxpayers — a health insurance industry-linked foundation known as the California Endowment has already spent around $15 million touting ObamaCare. The tax-funded ads will not start until next year.
Critics of the propaganda scheme, however, are up in arms. “Remember that the liberal media was furious that the federal government would promote the war in Iraq inside Iraq, and furious that the Department of Education would hire PR flacks like Armstrong Williams to talk up Bush education programs on cable news,” noted Tim Graham, the director of media analysis at the Media Research Center. “So where is their outrage at the idea that federal grants would promote ObamaCare advertising inside network TV entertainment programs?”
Recent polls show that a majority of Americans still want ObamaCare repealed even as multiple states work to nullify the scheme entirely. Even in California, barely 54 percent of the population supports the healthcare takeover. And the GOP could still end the scheme altogether, either by cutting off funding in the Republican-controlled House of Representatives or repealing at least parts the law if Mitt Romney were elected.
Aside from complaints about using taxpayer money to support government policies, popular or not, opponents argue that the bloated California state government as well as the U.S. government are already drowning in debt and seeking tax hikes — hardly a good time to squander resources on political propaganda. In fact, California’s state government finances are in such poor shape that the future of ObamaCare is in question even in the Golden State.
The California health exchange website has already cost taxpayers hundreds of millions of dollars — far more than the price tag to build Google. Most of that was funded by a $237-million “grant” extracted from American taxpayers, printed by the Federal Reserve, or borrowed by Washington. The rest came directly from Californian taxpayers.
But as the state government teeters on the edge of financial oblivion — the deficit is estimated at $16 billion — Democrat Governor Gov. Jerry Brown is begging citizens to approve a “temporary” tax increase. California Secretary of Health and Human Services Diana Dooley raised the stakes, indicating that even the implementation of ObamaCare may be at risk if state voters refuse to surrender more money.
That will not stop the taxpayer-funded ObamaCare propaganda, however. Analysts widely expect Hollywood to go along with the scheme, promoting the unpopular healthcare takeover on popular TV shows to unsuspecting Americans seeking “entertainment” — blissfully unaware of the government-sponsored political scheming.
“There are times it seems overwhelming how corrupted various aspects of society have become in the effort to impose Obamacare on the country,” observed William Jacobson, associate clinical professor at Cornell Law School. “Instead of helping sell soap, television will help sell a political platform. Is there any doubt that Hollywood will play along?”
Even with multiple TV shows spewing propaganda for ObamaCare, however, some commentators believe opposition will remain strong. Many conservatives barely watch television now due to the overt political bias and the widespread immorality passed off as normality — and those who do watch are largely aware of Hollywood’s overt big government bias.
“If the Left really wants to convince people Obamacare is a great thing, their first step should be to stop giving Congress, unions and other leftist organizations an exemption from the law,” wrote political commentator Charles Phipps. “If the law isn’t good enough for them, no television show would ever convince me it’s good enough for me. If I watched it. Which I won’t.”
Another ObamaCare critic, Justin Higgins, echoed those sentiments. “They’re talking about taxpayer funded propaganda, plain and simple,” he said in a recent blog post about the scheme. “This is an obscene waste of taxpayer dollars with a clear political purpose, yet there’s apparently nothing we can do, except expose it, defeat Obama and repeal the damn thing.”
Of course, this is hardly the first time the Obama administration and American officials have come under fire for spending taxpayer money on political propaganda. Earlier this year, for example, the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services was criticized for unconstitutionally spending $20 million on “PR” to promote ObamaCare.
In fact, despite federal law prohibiting government propaganda aimed at Americans, the use of taxpayer money to tout political schemes has been steadily rising in recent years. Just this month, lawmakers in Congress were investigating a scandal surrounding the use of “stimulus” funds to purchase over 100 ads touting “green energy” schemes on the far-left MSNBC cable television outlet. That $2-million plot was also hatched under the guise of “public relations.”
“We understand this contract used taxpayer dollars to purchase advertisements on MSNBC during ‘Countdown with Keith Olbermann’ and ‘The Rachel Maddow Show,’” wrote House Committee on Education and the Workforce Committee Chairman Rep. John Kline (R-Minn,) and other Republicans in a letter to Labor Department Secretary Hilda Solis. The secretary was asked to promptly explain the controversial decision.
“Despite the fact that these funds were made available as part of the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act — legislation President Obama said was critical for immediate job creation — an examination of public records show that the contract that resulted in the advertisements on MSNBC created no jobs,” the lawmakers concluded, requesting information about which law purportedly authorized spending taxpayer funds on public relations gimmicks by “Job Corps.”
Before the MSNBC scandal, The New American reported that many of the biggest establishment media companies — the Washington Post, NBC, Reuters, newspaper giant Gannett, CBS, among others — were receiving billions of tax dollars from an ObamaCare slush fund as they peddled the healthcare takeover to the American people. No disclosures were offered in their reports explaining that the company was receiving ObamaCare money.
